TROUBLESHOOTING
BUILD HOPPER
Experiencing issues with the drone after assembly? Here are the most common issues and how to trouble shoot them.
Drone Won’t Fly or Take Off
Revisit the Propeller Orientation Test
If the drone keeps flipping over during attempted take off, the propellers may not be attached to the correct motor. Conducting the Propeller Orientation Test, will ensure that the propellers are on the corresponding motors and the drone is able to achieve vertical lift.
Motors/Propeller Not Spinning
Check motor wire connections.
If one or more of the motors/propellers are not spinning, remove the bottom body cover and check all connections between the motor and the PCB. Make absolutely sure that the connections at the end of the motor wire lay perfectly parallel to the PCB when installed to the connection ports.
If one edge of the connector is slightly elevated from than the rest, this can cause that motor to not spin. If necessary, remove the connection by pulling away from the PCB in a perpendicular fashion and reattach. Repeat this process as necessary. Revisit the Motor Wire Connection section to confirm the proper connections.
If the previous steps don't help, inspect the motor and/or the PCB for damage and consider replacing the component as necessary.
Drone Will Not Establish Connection
Check the battery.
If your drone is having difficulties establishing connection to either the FTWFly or FTWCode, make sure batteries are fully charged at 100%.
In addition to a full battery, also verify that any connecting device has Bluetooth enabled and is not connected to any additional drones.
If you are still experiencing difficulties with your drone, please email our support team at support@ftw-robotics.com.
Airfoil
A body (such as an airplane wing or propeller blade) designed to provide a desired reaction force when in motion relative to the surrounding air
Airframe
The Airframe is the main body of the drone that every other component attaches to
Anti-Clockwise [A]
Anti-Clockwise (or Counter Clockwise) [A] motion is one that proceeds in the opposite direction as a clock's hands
Battery
Energy source used to supply power to the drone
Clockwise [C]
Clockwise [C] motion is one that proceeds in the same direction as a clock's hands
Firmware
Firmware is permanent software programmed into a read-only memory
Gimbal
The mechanism that allows for different position of the camera on the drone
Micro-USB
a miniaturized version of the Universal Serial Bus interface which enables the direct charging of the drone's battery
Motor
A motor is powered by electricity that supplies motive power for moving parts
PCB
A Printed Circuit Board is a board design with a base board and copper traces to maintain connectivity between electronic components such as LED's, integrated circuits, and resistors for your devices
Propeller Twist
A differece in angle between the blade at its tip, and at the point where it meets the propller hub
Propellers
Mechanical device for propelling an aircraft or boat, consisting of a revolving shaft with two or more broad, angled blades attached to it
