Maintenance
Students perform hands-on inspections and repairs on the Hopper fleet to understand how routine maintenance ensures flight safety. By analyzing real-world failures, they identify maintenance-related risks and create a Public Service Announcement to advocate for proper equipment care and pilot accountability
What Students Learn
Students develop essential knowledge by understanding the importance of routine maintenance and pre-flight inspections to ensure airworthiness. They practice pre-flight familiarization by using and updating checklists to ensure all systems are safe and operational before flight. Additionally, the curriculum focuses on hazard identification and risk mitigation by evaluating maintenance-related risks and implementing preventive measures.
What Students Do
Students work in small groups to conduct routine maintenance on the classroom Hopper fleet using a guided checklist and professional tools. They are required to document all work performed, including descriptions and signatures, in a formal Maintenance Service Log for each aircraft. To conclude the mission, students synthesize their research on drone failures into a creative Public Service Announcement and complete FAA Part 107-style practice questions regarding maintenance protocols.
